Clinton Pearson, the creator of the Bristol 35.5 began his boat making career in 1955 by building fiberglass dingheys in his garage. That orginal company he started, sold out in 1961 due to cash flow problems resulting from rapid expansion. Clinton continued to unhappily work for the large company until 1964. The Bristol Yacht Company began in 1966 when Clinton bought out a troubled sailboat maker. This new company was located in Bristol, Rhode Island on land owned by Clint, where his home and barn was also located. Across from the barn was a small marina and travellift.

Among the first Bristol Yacht Models were the 27 designed by Alberg and the 29 designed by Halsey Herreshoff. Herreshoff's early designs featured cutaway keels and long overhangs. His later designs were more performance driven. Early Bristols offered a lot of value for their price, including large galleys and cockpits with seats made for sleeping. The interiors featured formica and mahogany trim.

The second series of boats carried a decimal at the end of the names as well as a repeat of the second model number (29.9, 33.3, 35.5, 38.8). Most of these second generation yachts were born from the design team of Ted Hood, an America's Cup Designer. His designs were mostly centerboard boats that aimed at perfomance.

The more recent designs, as in the Bristol 35.5 was created by Dieter Empacher, who was once employed by Ted Hood. Most Bristol Yachts were heavier than comparible sailboats. These boats could be raced, but were designed more for comfort and cruising. The Bristol Yacht company closed it's doors in 1997.

have to say about us!

"... The quality of the models is superb, the quality of the ships, marvelous. Unfortunately, the Bluenose II had its rigging tangled in shipment. I believe the box was turned over several times. However I contacted Model USA Warships and they have been most accommodating about accepting re-shipment. I will replace the model with another selection - and possibly order other models!

The crating, packing and fisturing of the models for shipment is quite extraordinary - well concieved and carried out. I am very happy with the purchases and recommend this company without hesitation."

"San Felipe and Royal Louis finally reached Islamabad(Pakistan) after a long long journey of six months (with breaks) by road (Plymouth to Washington to Newark), by sea (Newark to Karachi) and by train (Karachi to Rawalpindi / Islamabad). Both ships are in excellent shape and are actually more beautiful than their pictures on your website."

"All in all it was a pleasure doing business with you and the model ships you sent will give my family and my brother's family Dr. Aly Abrar Khokhar (Royal Louis)} hours and hours of pleasure and will very obviously be the focal point and pride of our homes. Hope to refer more people your way."

"Dear Model USA Warships:

I want to tell you how impressed I am at the quality of the "shrimp Boat" I just received and the great service you have provided. I am new to Model USA Warships and am thrilled that I found you. I have searched for quality model boats from Seattle to San Diego with little success. Now I can do it on line! Thanks!"

"Dear Melissa,

The pirate ship has arrived in great shape!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The friend I purchased it for is ecstatic. It is beautiful.

The ship was very well packaged and the driver got the box here in dry and undented fashion. He stayed while we opened it to ensure the inside was not damaged. I am very impressed with The Custom Companies, Inc. delivery.

You have been outstanding in making all of this happen! I have the utmost respect for you and your company. My friend collects ships and I hope to be purchasing collector ships for many years. You have created a very loyal, repeat customer. (I'm not sure that will excite you considering the trouble my order brought (:>).

Thank you so very much! Your customer-centric behavior is rare and invaluable. Please share this with others in your management team as I want them to appreciate what you bring to the customer."

"Dear Melissa,

I received the US Constitution in perfect condition! I have been working a solid hour carefully removing her from the crating. I can honestly say, I am now an expert in performing this tedious task.

I want to thank you and your company for meeting and surpassing my expectations not only in the quality of the model ship but in the Great Customer Service provided to insure my complete satisfaction. In this day an age this is a hell of an accomplishment."

"The ordering process was quick and easy. This is a very reputable company and I highly recomend them!"

Best regards,
Tom Quartararo

"Aloha,

Just wanted you to know I got the ship last week....in perfect condition I may add, and it now graces my living room - a reminder of my trip to see the REAL Wasa in Stockholm last summer. Thank you very much!
